Our Story

a sweet setup

Until 2016, Abid and Denise were but two ships, passing in the night. Two strong, wild, adventuring, learning, doing, artist-type ships! Long-time friend, Kent Northcote saw the compatibility, years before our first date, and never gave up working to bring us together, until it finally happened.
On June 19th of that year, we went out. That night goes down in history as the first, best date ever, as there have been many new “bests” since. We ate at Beast and Bottle and laughed like crazy at the Shakespeare Improv Co. After a nightcap at The Green Russel, Abid helped Denise navigate Larimer Street’s wonky pavers in her “sexy shoes” and he held her tight, as we kissed.

“I gasped, the moment I began to sense this man’s depth. Of course I already knew of his brilliance as a doctor and artist, but I’d yet to realize his gentle curiosity, his helpful perspective and his generous heart. One glimpse at what he lay bare for me to see that night, and it was clear that to know him is to love him. And there’s so much of him to know.”

"Denise was uninhibited about sharing herself. I knew, right away, that she was someone I could trust, implicitly. Moment by moment, as she recounted her adventures in the arts, karate, roller derby and burning man, with unabashed vulnerability, my admiration, appreciation and love for her grew.  Her presence continues to be as intoxicating as it was on our first date."

Coming Home

After years of adventuring, creating, growing and loving one another, in 2018, Abid moved in, making Denise’s house of 13 years, a home. With the introduction of Bristol into our lives in March 2021, we’re feeling quite domestic, except…. “we’re still missing chickens!” Denise says.
There will be plenty to do (with or without chickens) as we are embarking on a huge adventure, establishing a personal getaway, on our new, majestic piece of land, in Jefferson, Colorado.

The Proposal

A plan, in the works for some time, was sprung into action when Abid unexpectedly proposed to Denise. It was our 5th year dating, anniversary and we settled on going out to dinner, after having previously planned to go camping.
Denise was surprised when Abid offered a gift, but even more so, when she saw a family heirloom, which she thought was at home in her dresser, staring back at her. To add to her confusedness, Abid had just two weeks prior said "I don't want to get married..." only to throw her off of his trail! So to say that she was 'caught by surprise', is an understatement.
He held her hands and said, as sincerely as ever, "I'd love, more than anything, for you to be my wife". To this she cried tears of joy while laughing at (and questioning) his games.
Needless to say, it was a big "YES!!".
